It's the time of year that everyone feels ambivalence toward their music choices.

There's always that one song that you had on repeat that you're embarrassed about. It's not because it isn't a good song, but because you can't believe you listened to it THAT many times.

You know the type of music that you listen to when your friends aren't around? That's the music that always ends up in your top music choices and it's why so many people are nervous to see their results.

For example, my top song of the year was deja vu by Olivia Rodrigo.

This was very ~humbling~ to say the least. I had no idea that I listened to this song as much as I did, and as much as I would like to say "It was the first song in my playlist," I most definitely listened to it 53 times.

If you're wondering, I did cringe while typing the number 53.

My Top 5 Songs for the year were partially surprising because I honestly do think a couple of the songs were in a playlist I listened to for the majority of the last 6 months.

Olivia Rodrigo honestly had a chokehold on me since her album release in May, which is something I would not be admitting if I didn't have two of her songs in my top 5. I'm a little embarrassed, but also have you heard favorite crime???? I scream that song in the car.

SZA putting out good days was one of the best things to happen this year and Tik Tok honestly helped the song get as much traction as it did (not that she needed it). It was trendy to listen to it, but it was also nice to have music from her.

COIN is one of those artists that I find myself constantly going back to. I didn't listen to them much until I saw them in concert in November 2018 and then I listened to them constantly. How Will You Know If You Never Try was and is an incredible album and I encourage you to listen if you haven't.

I still don't fully understand the Audio Aura portion of the Spotify Wrapped, but I think this is Spotify respectfully telling me that I'm a hopeless romantic? Either way, I think this is funny because I listen to way too much sad music if I'm being honest.

*Ignores the Contemporary Country genre*

Summing this up pretty quickly, I'm a POPPY gal. What can I say?

I was really surprised to see my top podcast next.

Morbid was the top podcast for me and I had listened to 16 episodes, which is way more than I expected to see.

I know a lot of the Crime Junkie gals are going to come for me when I say this, but I just could not for the life of me get into it. I tried to search for a true crime podcast that I liked to listen to and stumbled upon the Morbid podcast. I was obsessed with Ash and Alaina from the first episode because they manage to make every episode interesting.

I had to take a break for a little while because these podcasts are about very dark, very morbid stories and they can just get to be a little much.

I definitely recommend giving it a listen if you like true crime, spooky tales, or even morbid historical information.

Up next was the ranking of my top podcasts:

I'm sure it comes as no surprise that Emma Chamberlain's Anything Goes podcast was my second most listened to podcast.

I honestly expected it to be the first, but I listen to Morbid anytime I'm cleaning or taking long road trips, so I think it barely had it beat.

If you listen to the Cheers, Brother! podcast, if we aren't friends already, we should be. I love Caitlyn and Sarah Baska so much and this podcast was the perfect blend of interesting and funny.

Unfortunately, Caitlyn and Sarah both decided to stop filming episodes. They decided that it was too difficult to have the podcast together and while they are good friends I think the saying that you "shouldn't mix friends and business," sums up what happened there.

Of course I don't know what exactly happened, but I think that anyone that follows them separately can see that there was some sort of shift after the podcast ended. I still love them both and I enjoy watching their YouTube videos on their separate channels.

The last podcast is irrelevant because I listened to it one time and it was awful. It was an extremely generic Aries - Daily Zodiac prediction and it was the worst.

Getting back into Artists on my Spotify Wrapped... you will never believe who my top artist was!

If you guessed Olivia Rodrigo, you would be correct. If you think I'm embarrassed that I am also in her TOP 2% you would also be correct.

Following this lovely bit of information was my Top Artist ranking:

Taylor Swift being my second top artist was a little surprising, but looking back, it isn't.

She released 3 albums over the past two years, Folklore, Evermore, AND the release of Red Taylor's Version with songs from the Vault. This woman stays busy and I am living for it.

COIN being number 3 is no surprise either. All I have to say is listen to Let It All Out (10:05), Heart Eyes, Time Machine, Don't Cry 2020... I could go on, but ask me for recommendations if you're interested and I PROMISE you will not be disappointed.

LANY being my number 4 Artist was a surprise to me because in all honesty I have not been impressed with their new music. It's my own opinion and I understand that not everyone feels this way, but cowboy in la and gg bb xx did not live up to the hype.

My issue lies with Paul Klein constantly talking about being with a woman and thinking about his ex, whether it's Due Lipa or someone else, it's disgusting and it makes me hate listening to them.

If you need examples just listen to Valentine's Day, heart won't let me, & up to me.

Do not even get me started on his whole "southern gentleman" or "good guy" persona, I will throw up.

Also, the song 'til I don't sounds good, but how shitty to say "I promise I will love you 'til I don't." How about you just say you have issues from your last relationship and move on.

Anyway, I'm hopping off of my soap box now. :)

The last artist in my top 5, The WLDLFE, is truly underrated. I love them as a band and artistically they produce some incredible music.

If you listen to any of their music, you can easily see that they put a lot of thought into their lyrics and sound.

I could rave about them all day, but I definitely recommend you check them out.

A few songs you should start with if you're unsure where to start: Box, Nothing But Time, and You Don't Love Me (Like You Used To) are all newer releases that I can't stop listening to.

I appreciate you taking the time to take a deep dive into my Spotify Wrapped with me and I hope you'll leave a message so we can discuss anything that I said in this post.

I hope you all have had a wonderful New Year's Eve and Happy Listening! ;)

xoxo,

Jamie Lee
